Lois passed peacefully with her children by her side on October 19, 2017, in San Luis Obispo, Calif. She was born at home in Brady, Wash. to Lawrence and Gertrude Sargent and attended schools in Montesano, Wash. She married her first husband, Byron Lawson, raising four children and working to supplement the family income. In 1968, Lois and the children moved to Morro Bay, Calif. She married her second husband, J. R. Johnson of Morro Bay Oyster Co., and was blessed with a son. Upon retiring the oyster business, Lois and J.R. spent many years living on a small farm in Santa Margarita raising their son and traveling until her husband’s death lead her back to Morro Bay. Lois is remembered for her love, her sweet smile and an open door to family and friends. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her children are especially thankful for the friendship shown their mother by special friend, Juanita Stewart. Lois is survived by and will be greatly missed by her daughters: Diane Calvillo of Morro Bay and Janice Gardner (Richard) of Los Osos; her sons: Doug Lawson (Sharon Hill) of Santa Margarita and James Johnson (Candice) of Las Vegas, Nevada; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn Leetham (Gerald) of Morro Bay; a brother, Jim Sargent (Lisa) of Sacramento; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends whom she loved deeply. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sister, Darlene Moore; daughter, Gail Boyle; son-in-law, Albert Calvillo; and great-grandson, Aaron Calvillo. Graveside service will be at 2:00 pm, November 4, 2017, at Los Osos Valley Cemetery. Arrangements by Benedict- Rettey of Morro Bay.
